Be Covid Aware, follow the guidelines and safety signage when visiting the Club

Hi everyone,

We are looking forward to a fantastic summer with increased activity at the club with easing of restrictions. It was great to see so many members out sailing / training. Next week June 9th we are back to full racing mode for club members. Your committee is working hard in the background, getting the club and training boats spick and span. We didn’t have an open night in 2021 but we will hopefully have something social in the club at the end of June. More details to follow.

Boat Donation We want to acknowledge the generous donation of a Laser 2 by a club member. We now have two laser 2s, and we are always trying to build our training fleet, the Laser 2 is a great addition especially for teaching kites and wires. Thanks again.

If you want to donate or know someone that would like to make a donation of a fully working boat to the club please contact Des. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so we can assess its suitability. The club is looking for a Laser and a Topper if anyone knows of one for sale or has one to donate.

We were sad to hear the annual 2021 Cong – Galway Sailing Race is now fully booked. A few boats from Cullaun had planned to take part. Due to the unprecedented demand for out door activities after the lockdown its not surprising. Cullaun has been well represented over the years. It wont be long before we have our own Cong - Galway style event on Lough Derg with the Derg Triangle.

Annual Derg Triangle. Des Mac Mahon (cullaun sailing club), has been busy over the last year with a fantastic proposal The Derg Triangle will be a 1 Day annual 20 mile freshwater PY dinghy race. This will be a collaboration and a fundraiser with neighboring sailing clubs and covering 20+ miles of water on the spectacular Lough Derg. Its a very exciting proposal and will fit perfectly with the current promotion of this amazing lake and surrounds. https://discoverloughderg.ie/. In April as a test run, the planned route of Derg Triangle was sailed by 3 boats from Cullaun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhUrrTAxkFQ. We will keep you updated on its progress.

Adult training (fully booked ) Evening Training has been successfully running for the last four Tuesdays in May, the feed back from participants has been brilliant. A further 4 Tuesdays start on June1st fully booked. Big thanks to all our volunteers who helped out.

Summer Camps (fully booked) Junior Camps it will be a busy summer, June 7th marks the start of 9 weeks of junior camps again fully booked, for whatever reason we do get cancellations, and are operating a waiting list. We have a fantastic Senior Instructor on board. And he and his team of Juior instructors and helpers are looking forward to meeting all the new young sailors at various levels. A new support/safety boat RIB has been purchased and is due to arrive in June which will be a great addition to our other Support fleet.

ISA Dinghy Instructor Course May 28th, 29th, 30th and June 5th and 6th. We are running a dinghy instructor sail course for the last weekend in May and first weekend in June. Thanks to Jim and Damien for organizing this and the pre-assessment course that already took place and congratulations to all who took part.

Club membership and Summer course fees are now overdue so please pay by bank transfer. (See Bank Info Below) Non club members are not insured to take out club boats. There is a €5 single handed boats, €10 fee for other club boats. Honesty box will be in the clubhouse from 1st June. Also a log to be completed, in club boat log book.

Berthage We will be rearranging boats in compound so please make sure you have Berthage paid. As the number of boats is increased we will have to remove those who have not paid berthage. Annual Berthage per boat €80 is a very good price.
